Therapy After Abuse and Coercive Control in Colorado

Abuse has many forms and levels. If you're a survivor of abuse, you know that the trauma lingers. Let's talk about it.

There were no bruises and it still changed how you sleep. Therapy after coercive control and abuse for adults across the Denver metro.

You Can Heal After Abuse

Most people who find this page are not looking for a label. They are trying to describe a pattern that sounded reasonable one piece at a time. We work with coercive control, post-separation abuse, and the trauma that outlasts the relationship.

Even if there were no bruises

Money, monitoring, isolation, apologies that changed nothing. The harm was a pattern rather than an incident, which is why it is so hard to explain.

Despite leaving, it continues

Court filings, custody handoffs, a version of events circulating among mutual friends. Control kept going through whatever channels stayed open.

You still miss them

Missing someone who hurt you is not proof you got it wrong. It is a nervous system that learned to track that person closely.

You're doubting yourself

Years of having your perception corrected leaves a habit of saving screenshots to prove things to yourself. That habit is workable.

What is Counseling After Abuse Like at Bespoke Therapy Collective?

1

Steady first

We often start with somatic work including un-learning how to tightly hold your breath, mask feelings, and delay your own wellbeing in order to avoid chaos.

2

Then the memories

EMDR and parts work for the moments still playing in the present tense. Your therapist checks the pace with you instead of pushing for a full account.

3

Then the life after

Boundaries for contact you cannot avoid, grief for the years, and the slower question of who you are when you are not managing someone.

Abuse can be subtle or loud.

Finding a therapist that specializes in healing trauma after abuse

At Bespoke Therapy Collective, our entire practice is based around healing from trauma.

Coercive control literacy

Clinicians who already know the pattern, so you are not spending sessions proving that it counted.

Post-separation work

For the part nobody warns you about, when leaving turned out not to be the end of it.

Codependency and trauma bonds

For why the healthy thing can feel unfamiliar and the familiar thing can feel like home.

Care in Spanish

Available for clients who would rather do this work in a first language than a second one.

Please Note if You are in a Current Crisis:

We provide ongoing therapy, not emergency or crisis services. Anyone in immediate danger should contact local emergency services. Your therapist is also not your attorney. We can help you walk into a hearing steadier than the last one, not tell you how to win it. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24/7 at 1-800-799-7233, and 988 for a mental health crisis.

Frequently Asked Questions about Therapy After Abuse

I was never hit. Does this still count?

Yes. Coercive control, financial control, isolation, and monitoring do real damage on their own. People who were never touched often describe some of the sharpest hypervigilance we see.

Do I have to tell the whole story?

No. Trauma work does not require a full narrative, and telling all of it quickly tends to backfire. Your therapist works with what you bring and asks before going further.

What if I have not left, or I am not sure?

Then that is where we start. This is not a nudge in either direction. Plenty of people do this work while still in the relationship, or while they are deciding.
